I would suggest the group might want to visit the McCune Rare Book Collection at the JFK Library in Vallejo. Admission and parking are free. Visit their website (http://www.mccunecollection.org) for a good overview. The collection is a history of printing. It begins with a leaf from the Gutenberg Bible (1450), includes 6 other books printed in 15th century. They then have a number of famous printers from the 16th-20th centuries.
Some of the major books are the Kelmscott Chaucer (1896) printed by William Morris and illustrated by Edward Burne-Jones; Baskerville Bible (1763); Byrne's 4 color Euclid (1847);
Henry Evans' famous botanical lithographs; collection of the books of Book Club of California, Nonesuch Press, and Grabhorn Press. Also a section on miniature books and on latin books 15th-19th century. There are illustrations from 1498 and 1517. The collection also has a working 1852 Albion Printing Press.
