We will be meeting to swap books and good company. Please bring any books you have that you would like to trade (you do not have to bring a book, though, if you do not have any available.) The books can be of any genre and style (trashy novels and classics are all welcome. Our members have very varied tastes). We do a pot-luck dinner, so please bring something (it does not have to be homemade).

There is a $2.00 fee, collected at the meetup, to help me cover the expenses of being a meetup organizer. If you are unable to pay this fee, please just contact me. You will still be welcome.

If you are running late, please give me a call to let me know. If you know that you will be late, just let me know in your RSVP or an e-mail, so we know to not start swapping and talking books until you arrive. Please feel free to bring along a friend, the more the merrier!

IMPORTANT NOTE: There are 4 cats at this location, so if you are allergic please take this into consideration.

Cost: $2.00

Finally, a long awaited bookswap meetup! Just a quick (IMPORTANT) warning, at this house, we have both cats and a baby, so if you are allergic to either, please skip this meetup.

We will be meeting to discuss and swap books. Please come with books to swap (if you don't have any to swap, you can just come for the fun conversation) and a dish or drink to share (this does not have to be homemade!).

We will begin the evening by eating and getting to know one another, then we will introduce/discuss the books we have brought for swapping. After talking, we will then swap the books (you do not have to take home the same number of books. . .you may take more or less).

Please, if you are going to be late, put this in your RSVP! I would recommend that if you can be here before 7:30, you still come, but after that you might miss a lot.

Cost: $3.00

FYI: THERE WILL BE FOUR CATS (THEY LIVE IN THE LOCATION) AND A BABY AT THIS EVENT. IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC AND/OR DON'T LIKE CATS OR BABIES, PLEASE SKIP THIS EVENT.

Book Exchange: Please bring as many books as you have/as many books as you want to exchange. When we exchange the books, we first do a little intro to the books (what we thought of them, a little plot info, etc. Basically, just to tell the group about the book. . .this normally leads into many different discussions of other books, which is a lot of the fun!). We will not be using the "purchasing system anymore" (I am ending up with too many books leftover!) We are going to try to have people take as many books home with them that they would like regardless of how many they brought (within reason). I think this will work, since people are generally not greedy about the books and are happy to compromise. You can still come if you do NOT have books. We would love the company

Food: So that we have plenty to eat, we do a pot luck. So, all you need to do is bring some item of food. It does NOT have to be home made, so no pressure. But, please try and bring something, so that the pressure to feed everyone is not all on the person hosting the meetup.

Dues: Because being the organizer does have monthly fees attached to it, I will be collecting $1.00 from each person at each meetup. If this is a problem, please talk to me/e-mail me.

Directions:
To get to the meetup, you can take the 2,3, 4,5, N, R to borough hall. When you come out of the subway station, walk on montague street (towards the water). You will pass Clinton st, Henry St, then Hicks st (you may not cross clinton if you take the N,R line). Make a right onto Hicks, walk 1 block, then make a left. The building has a green awning. There is a doorman, just tell him apt 8B, Kilts.
If you need more directions, please call me (347-515-3720) or e-mail me

The way we exchange the books is we basically purchase them. For each soft cover book, you get one token and for each hardcover, you get two, and then you purchase books back from the general pile for the same prices. You can still come if you do NOT have books. We would love the company

Directions:
Take the L train to the Graham Avenue stop. (The third stop in Brooklyn.) Walk north on Graham Avenue. (In the first block and on both sides of the street, you will walk by a Dunkin Donuts, a Burrito place, three pizza places, and an Italian Ice place.) Walk straight for seven blocks (you will pass Conselyea, Skillman, Jackson, Withers, Frost, and Richardson Streets). Take a right onto Herbert Street and walk for a block and a half. You will cross Humboldt Street. I am number 55 on the left hand side of the street mid-block. Ring the middle buzzer and then step straight in through the first door and you will be buzzed in through the inner door. Sheryl?s apartment is on the second floor.

Directions:
543 4th Street, Buzzer #8 (cross street 8th Av). The best trains are either the F or the 2/3.
If you take the F get off at the 7th Av. stop in the front of the train. Take the stairs to your right, exit the subway and take the stairs on your left. Walk with the cafe Dizzy's on your right, in the same direction as the one way traffic on 8th Av. Walk 5 blocks and turn right on 4th Street. The apartment is about 3 buildings on your left, a brownstone with a glass and wood stained front door. The buzzer says #8 and one of the listed names is Carnese (can't remember the other name, maybe Citron?). You'll have to go through both glass doors but I buzz long enough to let you in both with room. Go all the way to the 4th floor (yes it's a long walk) and knock on the door on your RIGHT.
If you take the 2/3. Get off the Grand Army plaza, take the central staircase to upper level. Look for "Flatbush Ave South" and take the "Flatbush Av south" staircase on the right. Walk straight to Lincoln Place, the first street you will cross, turn right and then turn left at the next block, 8th Av, Walk 10 blocks (including the street that ends at 8th), turn left on 4th street. The apartment is about 3 buildings on your left, a brownstone with a glass and wood stained front door. The buzzer says #8 and one of the listed names is Carnese (can't remember the other name, maybe Citron?). You'll have to go through both glass doors but I buzz long enough that you don't need to rush. Go all the way to the 4th floor (yes it's a long walk) and knock on the door on your RIGHT.
Other options:
The 4/5 is an easy transfer at Nevins to the 2/3 (right across the platform) and only 3 stops before the Grand Army stop. If you miss it you can also transfer at Atlantic/Pacific but it's a lot harder to navigate around that station. At Atlantic/Pacific you can also transfer from the the N/R/Q/W and the M (only during rush hour).
You can also get to my place from the R (either transfer at 4th Av/9th Street the to F) or get off at 4th or Union St. and walk east (you arrive on the west side of 4th Av) but it's a long walk (11 blocks from Union, 9 from 4th Av and 4 of the blocks are long blocks, mostly uphill). If anyone wants directions from either station I'll be happy to give them but I doubt they will.

My apartment is in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. It is actually a quick trip from Manhattan. The best way to get here to to take the A/C to Jay St/Borrough Hall and transfer to the F (by walking across the platform). Take the F two stops to Carroll St. When you get out of the station, walk with traffic on Smith Street for a couple of blocks until you reach DeGraw St. Make a left. I am 324 Degraw. Walk up the steps and hit the top buzzer.
You can also take the G train to Carroll Street station. If you need to take another train or would like driving directions, I am more than happy to provide them. Please just e-mail me and I will send them back to you, plus I will post them on the website for other people. I just don't want to crowd these notes with directions at this point.

We will be meeting to exchange books, eat dinner and get to know each other. Additionally, we will be having a local author come and chat with us about her new book for 20 minutes or so, prior to our swapping. Here is some information on her: Ebony Dawn

Hello!
At the request of many of the group members, we are going to make our next themed bookswap all about memoirs, biographies and autobiographies. So, please only bring books to swap that fit in this category (if you are not sure that it fits, bring it anyway!). You do not have to have any books to bring to swap, by the way. You can just bring yourself and your wonderful company (plus food!)

Book Exchange: Please bring as many books as you have/as many books as you want to exchange, as long as they are within the non-fiction genre. When we exchange the books, we first do a little intro to the books (what we thought of them, a little plot info, etc. Basically, just to tell the group about the book. . .this normally leads into many different discussions of other books, which is a lot of the fun!). The way we exchange the books is we basically purchase them. For each soft cover book, you get one token and for each hardcover, you get two, and then you purchase books back from the general pile for the same prices.
PS. You do not have to have read the books that you bring! We all bring books that we haven?t read before, due to lack of interest, inability to slug through it or whatever.

Food: So that we have plenty to eat, we do a pot luck. So, all you need to do is bring some item of food. It does NOT have to be home made, so no pressure. But, please try and bring something, so that the pressure to feed everyone is not all on the person hosting the meetup.
